Crains Health Pulse: Autism Trials in NYC
Thursday, October 1st - 2009
Curemark, the Rye, New York-based pharmaceutical company, has begun national Phase III clinical trials for a new treatment for autism known as CM-AT. Some of the trial sites will be in New York City, a spokeswoman says. The drug treats an enzyme deficiency that prevents children with autism from digesting protein properly. That in turn disrupts the production of amino acids needed for proper brain function. If approved, CM-AT will be one of the first treatments that address a cause of autism instead of managing a symptom.
