Parkinson's Disease
In the United States, it is estimated that 60,000 new cases of Parkinson's Disease are diagnosed each year, joining the 1.0 to 1.5 million Americans who currently have Parkinson’s Disease. While the condition usually develops after the age of 65, 15% of those diagnosed are under age 50. Anti-Parkinson drug sales were approximately $670 million in 2002. Total drug sales used in the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease were substantially higher.
Curemark has identified a biomarker in these patients which indicates a possible pancreatic secretory deficiency. Curemark's CM-PK for these patients represents a potential new therapy to treat some of the most debilitating and dangerous symptoms of Parkinson's.
